Algebra 1 Lite is an online course designed to touch on the main concepts of Algebra 1 without being a full content Algebra course that may be too difficult for students with learning disabilities to master. This course would also be an appropriate course for adult students returning to Algebra after many years away from the classroom. The course will provide easy to understand examples and practice problems for students who are not able to take a traditional Algebra 1 course or do not need an extensive Algebra class to prepare them for an upcoming college level algebra class.

Topics covering in the course include:
- Signed Numbers
- Order of Operations
- Exponents (including negative exponents and arithmetic with variables who have exponents)
- Solving Linear Equations
- Solving Percent Problems
- Inequalities and Absolute Value Equations
- Working with Radicals and solving radical equations
- Factoring
- Solving Quadratic Equations
- Equations of lines (working with slopes, intercepts, parallel & perpendicular lines)
- Solving Systems of Equations (graphing, substitution, elimination, matrices)
- Word Problems (D=RxT, Mixture, Coin, and Consecutive Integer)
The content is progressive in nature. This means that the content is broken down into smaller steps that are taught first, those skills get practiced, and then the next step in the process is covered.
An Example of this: FACTORING
When learning factoring, a traditional Algebra course would give students:
x-squared + 6x + 5 and they would factor it into (x+5)(x+1). In Algebra 1 Lite, we first ask students to think of answers to puzzles such as: ”Think of two numbers when multiplied together equal +5 but when added together add to be +6.” This gets students thinking of the process before they bring symbols into the problem.
